Is this really art.

There are many debates as to whether digital media such as srtworks made on art pad are really art.
So what is art?
Art is
the products of human creativity; works of art collectively; "an art exhibition"; "a fine collection of art"
according .

Is digital art considered a valid form of art.

According to our definition states human creativity, is art, but this is computer produced -so is it art?
Computer digital art is a form of an idea produced by someone , if even the computer itself. It can not be prized for perfect features, but it can for creative colour schemes , and other designs.
The full colour  range is not available, and the various techniques not there. Someone, if knowing what you used and colour you took, may be able to reproduce the artwork. Uniqueness may not be there , but the creative message is still there.
In saying this , it is hard to classify it as a publishable, art.

What are the advantages of digital media, and the programs rather than the traditional paint, and canvas.
In this digital media, we can undo , try different techniques, and replicate images.
Say you would like to have different meaning in it. So all you have to do , is to replicate the original image, into another file, and simply copy, printscreen, then edit.

So the message is more important than the art which can be replicated.

Digital Art.

Digital Art

IN Digital art I have used art pad, which is quite fun as it simple, but with some complicated tools usable. It has more

This is one of the sized brushes used to paint your image. There are no textures as far I could  find, but opacity of the painting and specific colours is a definte option.
This is the page or the canvas with which you work.

I enjoyed many options in this program.

Digital Media

The term digital media refers to any type of media that is in an electronic or digital format for the convenience and entertainment of consumers.
Digital media includes anything that is presented in an audio (sound) or video (visual) form that can be seen and heard by others.
Examples of digital media can include
music files such as mp3, Midi or WMA files, video feeds found on the Internet at popular video websites, and animated flash or graphic design files and images used to create interactive websites and gamesFile:Augmented GeoTravel.jpg

This is a picture of an Ipod touch which has geograophic navigation.

The computer -digital data- represents data through the binary numeral system.
What is a bit
A bit or binary digit is the basic unit of information in computing and telecommunications; it is the amount of information stored by a digital device or other physical system that exists in one of two possible distinct states. These may be the two stable states of a flip-flop, two positions of an electrical switch, two distinct voltage or current levels allowed by a circuit, two distinct levels of light intensity, two directions of magnetization or polarization, etc.

What is a byte
The byte ,is a unit of digital information in computing and telecommunications, that most commonly consists of eight bits. Historically, a byte was the number of bits used to encode a single character of text in a computer and it is for this reason the basic addressable element in many computer architectures.

What is a Sampling rate?
Analog signal;
And resulting sampled signal
The sampling rate, sample rate, or sampling frequency defines the number of samples per second (or per other unit) taken from a continuous signal to make a discrete signal. For time-domain signals, the unit for sampling rate is hertz .The inverse of the sampling frequency is the sampling period or sampling interval, which is the time between samples.

What is colour depth and how does it affect the image?
In computer graphics, color depth or bit depth is the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer. This concept is also known as bits per pixel (bpp), particularly when specified along with the number of bits used. Higher color depth gives a broader range of distinct colors.

How does this affect the image?
Here are a series of images, showing the difference in the images depending on the colour depth.
1 bit (2 colors)

2 bits (4 colors)
4 bits (16 colors)
1 bit (2 colors)
2 bits (4 colors)
  • 3-bit color (23 = 8 colors) many early home computers with TV displays

4 bits (16 colors)

8 bits (256 colors)

24 bits (16,777,216 colors, "truecolor")

The 4bits or 8bits indicate the claritry of the picture

Drawing tools.

Drawing Tools

This is my creation in microsoft word
It is a little girl whom I have created out of shapes. This is a snapshot of the word document which I used today.

Notes.

Drawing programs creates images of objects (e.g. squire cirlce shapes.) .The objects can have properties. These objects can easily be edited. Drawing programs create vector files.
Inkscape os one drawing program, word also being another drawing program.
Paint programs create images pixel by pixel, there are no objects, it just knows the colour of the pixel. Hard to edit it.Files that they create are called bitmapped files.
M.S paint and Photoshop are Paint programs.

Paint

A paint program is a graphics program that edits bitmapped images.
The tool bar

This is a pencil icon which allows you to 'draw' with
the pencil as a free hand on the computer.
This is the paint bucket icon which allows you to colour portions or the complete screen.

This is the eraser icon which allows you to erase the marking
you have made and may not want anymore.

This icon is the magnifying glass which makes screen larger or smaller depending on your specifications.
The eydroplet chooses colour from recently selected colours.

The alphabet allows us to type on the paint.

This allows us to choose a colour and gives us a variety to choose from for your brush pencils.

This is an option to change the type of style to use.
This allows you to make different shapes.

Graphic terms
Definitions
Animated Gif-
The Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a bitmap image format that was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.

jpeg-
In computing, JPEG  is a commonly used method of lossy compression for digital photography (image). The degree of compression can be adjusted, allowing a selectable tradeoff between storage size and image quality. JPEG typically achieves 10:1 compression with little perceptible loss in image quality.

pixel-
In digital imaging, a pixel (or picture element) is the smallest addressable screen element in raster graphics; it is the smallest unit of picture that can be controlled.

bmp-
The BMP File Format, also known as Bitmap Image File or Device Independent Bitmap (DIB) file format or simply a Bitmap, is a Raster graphics image file format used to store bitmap digital images, independently of the display device (such as a graphics adapter), especially on Microsoft Windows and OS/2 operating systems.

flip-
Turn upside down or to change as reverse

video card-A video card, video adapter, graphics accelerator card, display adapter, or graphics card is an expansion card whose function is to generate output images to a display.

crop-
Cutting a length in short.

mirror-
A duplicate or a peice of work- imagery of it.

fps (frames per second)
Frame rate, or frame frequency, is the frequency (rate) at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames. The term applies equally well to computer graphics, video cameras, film cameras, and motion capture systems. Frame rate is most often expressed in frames per second (FPS), and in progressive scan monitors as hertz (Hz).

frames- A single image out of a sequence of images.

morph- To transform an image by computer.

cpu- Central Processing Unit   is the portion of a computer system that carries out the instructions of a computer program, and is the primary element carrying out the computer's functions.

dpi- dots per inch.

Resolution-The number of pixels per square inch of the computer screen.

File extension-
A filename extension is a suffix to the name of a computer file applied to indicate the encoding convention (file format) of its contents.

Compression- Compressing the resolution of the image and pixels per square inch.

In computer science and information theory, data compression or source coding is the process of encoding information using fewer bits (or other information-bearing units) than an unencoded representation would use, through use of specific encoding schemes.

Frame buffer-A framebuffer is a video output device that drives a video display from a memory buffer containing a complete frame of data.
Colour Depth-In computer graphics, color depth or bit depth is the number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel in a bitmapped image or video frame buffer. This concept is also known as bits per pixel (bpp), particularly when specified along with the number of bits used. Higher color depth gives a broader range of distinct colors.

My First Blog

This is my first blog (correction- in my -ebook).
I am quite interested and excited for the ict lesson.
